Our eyes are an important part of our life and we should not take it for granted.
Here are some tips to protect your eyes and save your vision from sight threatening conditions
- Get your eyes checked regularly. The best solution to prevent any eye problems is to have regular routine eye checkup.
- Wear Shades. Always wear UV protection when outdoors to reduce the risk of advancement of cataracts and macular degeneration. Since the sun doesn’t just affect your eyes from the front, try wearing a large brimmed hat to protect your eyes.
- Take Breaks. Give your eyes a break from digital devices and follow the 20-20-20 rule. Take a 20 seconds break every 20 minutes and view something 20 feet away.
- Keep Distance. The brightness and glare from computers, tablets, smartphones and televisions can lead to eyestrain after excess use. Position your computer screen 20 to 24 inches from your eyes.
- Eat Healthy Foods. What we eat is as important to our eye health as our systemic health. Fruits and vegetables have nutrients that help to keep our eyes healthy. Most nutrients which are good for your eyes can be found in everyday foods like spinach, citrus fruits, melons, broccoli, salmon, carrots and so much more!
- Blink Often. People who use a computer tend to blink less frequently than normal. Minimize your chances of developing dry eyes when using a computer by blinking frequently.
- Use Eye Protection. Construction workers and many factory workers are ones at risk of eye injuries while they are on the job. It is recommended to use the eye protection for their job.
- Stop Smoking. Smoking is as dangerous to your eyes as it is to the rest of your body. Smoking has been found to risk your eyes with problems like early cataracts, macular degeneration and Glaucoma.
